So, it has been another fun week of the summer holidays. We have been making all sorts, I have a stash of projects and activities to share with you all.
My favourite make this week is this gorgeous DIY organic body butter which smells like chocolate 🍫😋. It has been a hit for all the family especially my daughter, and it’s great as I have used natural ingredients that are good for her sensitive skin. This DIY lotion makes your skin so soft. Each of the ingredients have their own list of benefits, cocoa butter not only smells delicious, it is also great for fading stretch marks and scars.
This recipe uses 2 cups worth of ingredients in total but where it whips up it will go further. I filled 2 glass honey jars and a small tub for my daughter. One of the jars is for my lovely Sister-in-law and fellow blogger Alicia (check out her blog here).
First of all put all the ingredients into a bain-marie/ double boiler. I just uses a metal mixing bowl over a saucepan, but I might invest in a proper unit one day – but this works fine.
Turn on the heat and melt slowly, stirring until all ingredients mixed into a liquid. Leave to cool and put in the fridge for about 1- 1 1/2 hours so it starts to firm up at the edges.
This is where the electric whisk would be handy. My husband wanted to avoid the washing up; so he said he’ll whisk by hand 🙄. Half hour later 😅 it was a thick and creamy (it would only take 10 minutes with the electric whisk to get the same effect – but think of the calories burnt!).
Put it back into the fridge for 20 minutes and the mixture should firm up.
Spoon the mixture into the jars/ containers. I like to use glass jars for cosmetics rather than plastic. I usually save them when we finish a jar of honey or coconut oil (and are great for candles too – but I’ll save that for another post).
They’re finished! The chocolatey smell is divine – it must be the mixture of coconut oil and cocoa butter that is a winning combo. I strongly urge you to try this body butter and you’ll understand how scrummy it smells. I have been using it for a few days straight after showering and my skin feels so soft, and it’s great knowing there are no nasty chemicals in the ingredients.
