Zero Waste Craft – Tin Can Pencil Pot

Hi, this zero waste craft literally took 10 minutes. I reused my daughter’s old cardigan and a tin can out of the relevant recycling bags to make a fun pen/ pencil pot. Mia (my daughter), actually asked if we can recycle some items around the home instead of ‘binning’ them – and has inspired me! She doesn’t know about these pencil pots, we are redecorating her bedroom and plan to make lots of bits when she is in bed and surprise her when it’s all finished.

Not many instructions are needed with this make – it is that easy!

First cut the sleeves off an old jumper and grab an empty tin can. Last minute I decided to add a fun face on this as I felt the elbow patch was just begging for something added. So I cut off some buttons and a mouth.

I then simply covered the tin can with the sleeve and tucked in the cuff which covered the inside part that may be sharp (this was a ring pull opening can).

I glued on some faces and filled with some (my own – just for the pic) pens and pencils!

Will you be giving this a try? Have you made anything out of old clothes? Please comment below and let me know!😊

Is it weird that I found a cute jar and said to my husband “This would look so cute filled with buttons” I only have a couple of old buttons but a jar of colourful ones would spark joy for some reason…🀭
